Tartan Day

Happy Tartan Day Piggies & Pals! Today is a day to celebrate Scottish Ancestry and Culture! 🐹 💙 🤍 💙 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🇺🇸 🇨🇦 🥕 🥕 🥕 🎉

Your guinea pig may very well be a hereditary—or honorary—member of Clan MacWheek! Their stirring historical motto is every bit as evocative as their war cry: a triumphant WHEEEEEEEEEK that echoes over hill and vale.

🐹 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Nemo me impune wheekit
(Mess with the wheek… face the consequences.)

Have you ever dressed your guinea pig up in a tiny kilt? Ok, maybe that's just me. 🤪

Still, Tartan Day, April 6th, celebrated primarily in Canada and the United States, is a day to celebrate Scottish heritage, history, and that unmistakable pattern that has traveled far beyond the Highlands, the tartan!

Once shaped by region, dye, and the hands of the weaver, this distinctive pattern has evolved over time into a symbol of identity, story, and connection.

If you’ve researched your ancestry, or even your guinea pig’s—you may discover Scottish roots! With the Scottish diaspora reaching far and wide, it’s no surprise how many family trees include a Scottish branch.

Guinea pigs, of course, trace their real ancestry to the Andes of South America—Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, and Colombia—but given how far they’ve traveled (and how enthusiastically they’ve been adopted), it’s easy to imagine a few honorary Scots among them… especially the ever-proud Clan MacWheek

Clad in shades of lettuce green, pepper red, and Highland hay, standing watch over their kingdom of hay and hillside, they remind us that the wild spirit of our untamed ancestors lives on!

Wheek! Wheek!
