St Dunstan's Day

It's another Feast Day, Piggies! Clang and Wheek for St Dunstan's Day, patron saint of Bell Ringers! 🐹 🖤 💙 🖤 🔔 🔔 🔔 ⛪ 🥕

"Oranges and lemons,
Say the bells of St. Clement’s.

You owe me five farthings,
Say the bells of St. Martin’s.

When will you pay me?
Say the bells of Old Bailey.

When I grow rich,
Say the bells of Shoreditch.

When will that be?
Say the bells of Stepney.

I do not know,
Says the great bell of Bow."

~ Traditional nursery rhyme

Have you seen those clever guinea pigs who can ring a. mini-bell? You could perhaps train them (or yourself) to answer their clang and wheek to bring them treats, making them little cavy campanologists (bell-ringers).

Bells used to be central to town and village life, with bells marking iimportant occasions such as births, deaths, special feast days, and of course, treat time.

"Parsley and lettuce
Say the bells of St. Wheekus

Cucumbers crunchy
Say the bells of St. Munchy

Hay in the hallway
Say the bells of St. Timothy"

Wheek! Wheek!
