Sleep in Saturday
It's the Festival of Sleep Day, Piggies & Pals! 🐹 💛 💙 💛 🥕
Wheek it, pigs! Wheeked to the tune of "Rock around the Clock":
"🎵 One, Two, Three O'clock, Four O’clock snooze
Five, Six, Seven O'clock, Eight O'clock chews
Nine, Ten, Eleven O’clock, Twelve O'clock nap
We're gonna nap around the clock tonight
When the lights go low and the carrots are gone,
We wiggle in the hay and we settle on,
We're gonna nap around the clock tonight,
We're gonna nap nap nap in broad daylight.
We're gonna nap, gonna nap around the clock tonight!"
It's the Festival of Sleep Day (for tired humans) and Sleep In Saturday for piggies and humans today! Hopefully, your Saturday will afford you a bit of a rest. Use your guinea pigs as models for what they do the best, the power nap!
As keen piggy observers know, piggies are excellent at dozing, napping, snoozing, and "the flop", all the while staying alert and waking refreshed for incoming snacks.
If you see your piggies feet sticking out from a pigloo or their fleece bed, you know they're deep in relaxation. All that conniving for extra snacks takes its toll.
Remarkably, guinea pigs sleep only about 4–6 hours per day, but not all at once!
💤 Short naps only: They sleep in many brief bursts—often just a few minutes at a time.
🌗 Day and night sleepers: Guinea pigs are crepuscular, meaning they’re most active at dawn and dusk, but they nap around the clock.
👀 Eyes open or half-open: As prey animals, they often sleep lightly and may keep one eye open.
🧠 Very light sleep: Deep sleep is rare; they stay alert to sounds and movement.
🛏️ Comfort matters: Soft bedding, a hidey house, and feeling safe help them nap more peacefully.
And perhaps you can get yourself a nap today too, in between your piggy duties, of course!
Wheek! Wheek!.
