Happy May Day and Beltane, Piggies & Pals! 🐹 💛 🧡 💗 💛 💚 🌹 🌷 🌼 🌺 🥕

As April gives way to May, something magical stirs in the guinea pig habitat!

In many places throughout the Guinea Pig World, May Day arrives with ribbons, revelry, and mini Morris dancers jingling and wheeking their way through cobbled lanes and fluffly litter.

May Day has roots in ancient Floralia and lively village fêtes—a cheerful celebration of spring’s return. Early guinea pig risers would go “a-Maying,” gathering flowers and even washing their faces in the morning dew for a bit of beauty and luck (and a very brisk wake-up!).

On the village green, maypoles wrapped in blooms stood tall while dancers wove bright ribbons, and a May Sow Queen often presided over the fun.

Further north, Beltane marked the same day with bonfires, music, and a hint of magic. In early Celtic tradition, often associated with the Druids, fires were lit to bless and protect—welcoming summer with light, dancing, and popcorning!

Celebrate with your piggies today with some fresh air, a nibbling of something fresh and green, and maybe an edible flower!
