Rat Appreciation Day (RAD)

Squeaky, Wheeky and Eeky, Piggies and Pals! It's Rat Appreciation Day (RAD,) 🐹 💗 🖤 💗 🐀 🐀 🐀 🧀 🥕

"Rats are just guinea pigs with a bad publicist… and a very committed tail situation."

~ Snarky rodent humour

Ah yes, we must give other tailed-rodents their due ... It's only fair!

Let's talk celebrity RAD ....

Were you a fan of the famous—and just a little bit infamous—Rat Pack of the 1950s? The smooth, swaggering kings of cool who made cocktails, comedy, and charisma look effortless: Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford, and Joey Bishop.

They ruled Las Vegas stages, traded witty one-liners like currency, and turned every performance into a party you wished you’d been invited to.

Or how about the Brat Pack of the 1980s? Definitely less ratty, but more bratty - instead of martinis, more mall food courts, but just as iconic in their own way! The angsty, charming faces of teen cinema who defined a generation: Molly Ringwald, Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Judd Nelson, Anthony Michael Hall, Ally Sheedy, and Andrew McCarthy.

They gave us detention rooms, teenage heartbreak, coming-of-age moments—and enough quotable lines to last a lifetime.

And this decade's newest rat trend, "Hot Rodent Boyfriend" celebrates a very specific kind of male ratty charm—the slightly scruffy, quick-witted, a-little-bit chaotic man who isn’t conventionally polished, but is endlessly magnetic. Celebrities often cited in this category include Timothée Chalamet, Adam Driver, and Matty Healy.

Appealing? Too ratty?

To each their own ... rodent beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

To be honest, rats are actually quite impressive. They’re clever, social, and can solve puzzles faster than most of us can find the mobile phone we just had in our hand. They form friendships, show empathy, and will absolutely outsmart you if snacks are involved.

That said… not every guinea pig enthusiast is ready to fully embrace the long-tailed lifestyle. And some of us admit to a wee bit of screaming if we see an unexpected rat guest, however charming.

Because while rats deserve appreciation ...

some of us prefer our rodents round and potato-like, wheeky, and gloriously tail-free.

But Happy Rat Day anyway, all Rat Enthusiasts!
