Pretzel Day

Woo hoo, Piggies! Pass the Mustard! It's Pretzel Day! 🐹 🤎 💛 🤎 🥨 🥨 🥨 🥕

Fond of pretzels? Fond of pretzel logic? Knot theorist? Have a Guinea Pig named Pretzel? Do you find your special hidey curtains tangled in pretzel-like knots? It's all good!

Supposedly invented by a 7th-century Italian monk, the pretzel begins not as a snack, but as a lesson. The story goes that strips of simple, unleavened dough were folded to resemble arms crossed in prayer—a visual reminder for children learning their devotions during Lent. Even the name is often traced to the Latin bracellae, meaning “little arms.”

Pretzels spread throughout the world in the following centuries becoming wildly popular in some areas, such as the famous Philadelphia style soft pretzels in Pennsylvania, US!

Although guinea pigs are not pretzel snackers, they do exhibit soft pretzel-like twisty movement when you pick them up! Perhaps some parsley for them, a soft pretzel for you! Don't forget the hot mustard!!
