Piano Day
It's Piano Day, Piggies & Pals! Treat your guinea pig to some piano music in their preferred style! 🐹 🎹 🎼 🖤 🤍 🖤 🥕
There are 88 keys on a standard piano—which means today, the 88th day of the year is 🎹 Piano Day!
With one 4 toed forepaw, one three-toed backpaw, and a determined little nose, a guinea pig can just manage a major scale…
DO RE MI FA SO LA TI… WHEEK! 🐹 🎶
And teachers, take note—start them off right:
👉 LANDMARK G (for Guinea Pig) in the treble clef 🎼 🐹
👉 MIDDLE C (for Cavy porcellus)—naturally!
The repertoire of piano music about and for guinea pigs is… surprisingly underdeveloped 🤔—but a few noble entries do exist:
1. Song of the Happy Guinea Pig – Barbara Arens
Perfect for beginning students, this charming little piece features a delightful “wheek” 🐹 🎵
2. The Italian Guinea Pig Boy – 19th-century music hall
A comically heart-rending lament about a poor Italian street vendor of guinea pigs, longing to return home to his mamma 🇮🇹 💔
3. La marmotte, WoO 205, Beethoven
A beautiful little art song based on a poem by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and most often sung in French, tells the tale of a wandering Savoyard boy traveling from town to town with his performing companion, the guinea pig adjacent rodent, the marmot!
Once a fashionable European pet, the marmot eventually (and quite rightly) displaced by the superior guinea pig 😌 🐹 🎶
Look and listen below in the comments for more about these wonderful piano tunes!
Wheek! Wheek!
