Nutting Day

Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't! Well, it's Nutting Day, Piggies & Pals!

Whether you enjoy them, like to throw them, or love the trees, they are in abundance as we enter the autumnal hours!

Nutting parties were once a much-anticipated autumn outing, particularly for young piggies and people in Victorian times. Baskets and picnic blankets were gathered, and off everyone went in search of the best nut trees.

Once a promising grove had been found, branches could be shaken or beaten to bring down a shower of nuts.

The day's harvest could be eaten on the spot, carried home for winter, or saved for another important autumn occupation: fortune-telling. Nuts were traditionally tossed into the fire to predict luck, fidelity, and romantic prospects! That just nuts!
