Llama Wooly Days
A bit of Gossip, Piggies? Today is Wooly Whispering Day for Llamas! 🐹 🤎 🤍 💛 🤎 🦙 🦙 🦙 🥕
Know any guinea pig whisperers?
Know any llama whisperers?!
With their shared South American roots, llamas and guinea pigs are always delighted to exchange a little friendly gossip during holiday visits. Don your Saturday best, pop by for a visit, and catch up on all the latest friendship and fuzz with old companions—who’s molting, who’s courting, and who’s been hoarding snacks.
Guinea pig speak—affectionately known as “wheekish”—is a charming language of wheeks, chirps, rumbles, and purrs, perfectly suited to snack negotiations and moments of high drama. On the other hoof, llama conversation—often dubbed “llamalingo”—features gentle hums, expressive snorts, and of course, the legendary orgle. Yes, the orgle: that bizarre, warbling love serenade male llamas perform with great enthusiasm and questionable dignity. It’s awkward. It’s unforgettable. It’s peak llama.
And in a delightful twist of woolly coincidence, guinea pigs have an alpaca of their own. The alpaca guinea pig is a real breed, named for its dense, curly, continuously growing coat that forms ringlets and waves reminiscent of its camelid namesake. These guinea pigs are known for their gentle, calm personalities—though their fabulous curls require regular grooming to keep them looking their best. While alpaca guinea pigs aren’t biologically related to llamas or alpacas, the shared name is a perfect nod to nature’s flair for fabulous fiber and fashionable fuzz.
Orgle! Orgle! Wheek! Wheek!
