Left-Handers Day
🐹👈 HAPPY LEFT-HANDERS (AND LEFT-PAWERS) DAY! 👈🐹 🐾 🐾 🐾 🐾 🥕
Are you (or your piggy) a lefty? A southpaw? Cack-handed? Corrie-pawed? Or perhaps a Spuddy-handed Squiffy Bambino? It’s International Left-Handers Day, celebrating the roughly 10% of humans who look at a pair of scissors and ask, “Who designed this ridiculous thing?”
But are there left-pawed piggies? 🐾 Many animals show laterality—a preference for one paw, hoof, eye or side. Unlike humans, though, animals don’t generally share our overwhelming preference for the right.
Guinea pigs may have individual preferences, but there’s no good evidence of distinct righties and lefties. Their technique is probably closer to “use whichever paw gets the lettuce into my mouth fastest.” 🥬
Humans, meanwhile, have invented an astonishing number of names for lefties: Kerry Kittaghy, Kerr-handed, Kerry-fisted, Corrie-fisted, Corrie-pawed, Southpaw, Lefty, Cuddy-wifter, Hooker, Buck-fisted, Cack-handed, Caggy, Clicky, Cow-pawed, Dolly-pawed, Gar-pawed, Gibble-fisted, Golly-handed, Kay-neived, Keggy-handed, Left-kelly, Left-plug, Scoochy, Scrammy-handed, Skiffle-handed, Spuddy-handed, Squiffy, and—somehow—Bambino!
Guinea pigs have apparently avoided this linguistic mess. So we propose our own:
CAVY-HANDED. 🐹👈
Also acceptable: Wheek-fisted, Lettuce-pawed, Corrie-cavied, and Lefty McFloof.
Happy Left-Handers Day to all the lefties—human and cavy!
Wheek! Wheek!
