Hubble Telescope Launch Anniversary
It's an Astronomical Pig-History Day, Star-gaving Piggies & Pals! The Launch of the Hubble Space Telescope! 🐹 🖤 💗 🖤 🔭 💫 ✨ 💫 🌌 🥕
Piggies are born explorers, always in interested in the new layout of a freshly cleaned cage, and exploring the boundaries of a floor-time rug session. They know, as we do, that there is something beyond ... hopefully benign, and hopefully tasty.
Thanks to Edwin Hubble, we the near-sighted humans and short-sighted piggies can get a much better view of the beyond, thanks to Edwin Hubble!
Edwin Hubble was an American astronomer who fundamentally changed our understanding of the universe. In the 1920s, he showed that distant “nebulae” were actually separate galaxies far beyond our own Milky Way, and he discovered that galaxies are moving away from each other—evidence that the universe is expanding!
Decades later, his legacy was honored with the launch of the Hubble Space Telescope on April 24, 1990, aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery. Orbiting high above Earth’s atmosphere, Hubble has captured extraordinarily clear images of distant galaxies, nebulae, and stars, helping scientists refine the age of the universe, observe black holes, and even glimpse galaxies forming in the early cosmos.
Together, Hubble’s discoveries and the telescope that bears his name have given us one of the clearest views yet of our vast and evolving universe. Woo hoo!
See the comments for some very cool newer images from the Hubble Telescope!
Wheek! Wheek!
