Greetings with a High Five or a High Four as the case may be ...

National High Five Day rolls around again this Thursday, April 16th—and while humans are out there happily shouting “High five, Look Alive!”, the guinea pigs would like to point out that their version of celebration can look… a bit more nuanced.

After all, in guinea pig society, a well-placed hind-leg kick isn’t always festive—it’s often a very clear message to a herd mate who got a little too close to the lettuce pile. A quick thump-kick-round-house is a great way to handle an annoying cage mate!

So if you're kicked or punched by a piggy, it could mean something else:

High Four” (one front paw) – Don’t trim my nails no more!” 🐹💅🥕
“High Three” (one back kick) – Those carrots are for me!” 🐹🥕
“High Eight” (two front paws) – S mnacks can’t wait!” 🐹🥬
“High Six” (two back paws) – Back off now—no funny tricks!” 🐹💨
