Guy Fawkes Day

Happy Guy Fawkes and Carrot Bonfire NIght, Piggies! 🐹 🖤 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🥕

"Remember, remember the 5th of November!"

The Guy Fawkes mask, popularised in the movie "V for Vendetta" has since evolved into a global symbol of resistance against oppression, censorship, and governmental corruption.

... and of course, for guinea pigs, as an additional symbol of omnipresent treat hunger. 🤪

Also known as Bonfire Night, Fireworks Night, Gunpowder Treason Day, Plot Night, Cracker Night, and Guy Fawkes Day, November 5th is a day steeped in history! Guy Fawkes Night, celebrated mostly in the UK and some commonwealth countries, commemorates the foiling of the 1605 Gunpowder Plot—a scheme to blow up the English Parliament and assassinate King James I of England, who was also James VI of Scotland.

Fireworks, confires, and treacle toffee are traditional entertainments as well as a burning effigy of the “Guy”—a figure traditionally crafted from a jacket and trousers stuffed with straw (and a mask or likeness of Guy Fawkes). In times past, people would parade the “Guy” through town, calling out “penny for the Guy” to raise funds for fireworks before placing the effigy atop a roaring bonfire.

Careful to not singe your fur, popcorning over any mock carrot bonfires tonight, piggies!
