Ellis Island Day

Happy Ellis Island Day, Immigrant Piggies! 🐹 🤎 🤎 🤎 🇺🇸 🗽 🥕

Do you or your piggies have immigrant ancestors? Are you the genealogy person in your family. Did your relatives travel through the famous Ellis Island in New York? Have you seen the actual hand written records? It's fascinating!

Between 1892 and 1954, more than 12 million people (and an undocumented number of guinea pigs) passed through Ellis Island, arriving with dreams of new beginnings.

Guinea pigs have had quite the global adventure of their own as little pig-immigrants. Originally from South America, guinea pigs have been traveling the world for centuries. Spanish explorers encountered them in the 1500s and brought them back to Europe, where they quickly became beloved pets among the curious and the well-to-do. From there, their journey continued—across oceans, into homes, classrooms, and cozy corners everywhere!

Thank you to those who welcome and rescue guinea pigs needing a new home, wherever they may be! 💗
