🐘 💗 Happy Elephant Day! 🐹 💗 🐘 🐘 🐘 🥕

Today is a perfect excuse to celebrate these extraordinary giants—famous for their intelligence, strong family bonds, remarkable memories, and wonderfully expressive personalities. Elephants comfort one another, cooperate, play, communicate over long distances, and form relationships that can last for decades.

Elephants have also lumbered quite happily through literature. 📚🐘

There’s Babar, the elegantly dressed elephant king; Horton, who famously insists that “a person’s a person, no matter how small”; Elmer, the cheerful patchwork elephant; Dumbo, who began life in a children’s story before becoming a Disney favorite; and Hathi and his herd from Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book. Perhaps the most poignant is the little elephant in Kipling’s The Elephant’s Child, whose enormous curiosity ultimately explains how the elephant got its trunk. 🐘 📖

So here’s to elephants real and imagined—and to friendships that don’t require anyone to be the same size, or even remotely the same species! 😄 Whether enormous and trunked or tiny and wheeking, love comes in all sizes. 🐘❤️🐹
