They lounge in their apartments, ring for refreshments at unreasonable hours, complain if dinner is late, and regard fresh vegetables as nothing less than their hereditary right. 🥬 👑

Downton Abbey first aired in Britain in 2010 and followed the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants at the fictional Yorkshire estate of Downton Abbey, beginning in 1912 with the sinking of the Titanic. Over six television series, the story followed the household through the First World War and the enormous social changes of the 1920s, when the old country-house world—and the rigid division between “upstairs” and “downstairs”—was beginning to change.

Of course, in a guinea pig household the class system remains remarkably intact.

Upstairs: “I believe I requested cucumber.”

Downstairs: “You had cucumber ten minutes ago.”

Upstairs: “Yes. And yet here we are.”
