Candy Floss Day
What do YOU call that fluffy, sweet, confection made of spun sugar? Happy Cotton Candy, Candy Floss, and Fairy Floss Day! 🐹 💗 💛 💙 🎪 🎪 🎪 🍭 🍭 🍭 🥕
No doubt the sweetest, fluffiest thing in your life would be ... a guinea pig or two, of course! 😊
But the last of summer may remind you of that other sweet treat! No matter what you call it, this old-fashioned spun sugar delight may bring back memories of summer fairs, sweet shops, and sticky fingers!
Ironically, Candy Floss was invented in 1897 by a dentist, William Morrison, and confectioner John C. Wharton! 🤪 🦷 🦷 🪥
This airy confection first amazed visitors at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair before becoming a beloved fairground tradition around the world. As it travelled, it picked up charming local names. Australians still call it fairy floss, preserving its original Victorian-era name, while Britain, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and many Commonwealth countries know it as candy floss. Elsewhere it becomes barbe à papa ("Daddy's beard") in France, zucchero filato ("spun sugar") in Italy, Zuckerwatte ("sugar cotton") in Germany, and algodón de azúcar ("sugar cotton") in Spain—all inspired by its wonderfully soft, cloud-like appearance.
Guinea pig lovers might already have something sweet and fluffy at hand, and in classic candy colours!
💙 A beautiful Lilac guinea pig can bring to mind a fluffy puff of blue candy floss!
💛 A pale Cream cavy looks wonderfully at home beside a cloud of buttery-yellow spun sugar
💗 An adorable pink Skinny Pig may not be fluffy in fur, but definitely fluffy in spirit!
May your day be sweet!
Wheek! Wheek!
