Chestnut Day
It's Christmas Carol Season! Wheek it, Pigs! Enjoy the fur-soft tones of Nat King Cole Cavy singing "The Christmas Song" otherwise known as "Chestnuts Roasting by an Open Fire" ....
Adapted for guinea pigs 🐹 ❤️ 💚 ❤️ 🌰 🌰 🌰 🥕
"Hay piles warming by the pigloo fire,
Jack frost wheeking from his nose.
Happy squeals being sung by the herd
And piggies dressed just like eskimos!
Everybody knows some carrots and some parsley too
Help to make the season bright
Piglets small with beady eyes all aglow
Will find it hard to nap tonight!
They know that Santa's on his way
He's bringing heaps of kale and lettuce on his sleigh
And every sow-pigs child is gonna spy
to see if reindeer really know how to fly ...
Merry Pigmas, Good night!"
"The Christmas Song" better known by its opening line—is one of the most enduring Christmas songs of the 20th century.
The song was written in 1945 by Mel Tormé and Bob Wells during a sweltering summer in Los Angeles. Wells reportedly jotted down cozy winter images—chestnuts roasting, Jack Frost nipping, carols being sung—as a way to mentally cool off, and Tormé quickly set those images to music.
Although several artists recorded early versions, it was Nat King Cole who cemented the song’s place in Christmas history. His smooth, intimate 1946 recording (and later re-recordings in the 1950s and 1960s) defined the song’s warm, nostalgic tone and helped turn it into a seasonal staple.
Wheek! Wheek!
