Zebra Day

Jan 30

IT'S ZEBRA DAY, PIGGIES! IF YOU'RE STUDYING A ZEAL OF ZEBRAS, YOU MIGHT NEED TO DISGUISE YOURSELF AS ONE OF THE HERD!

"I asked the Zebra, are you black with white stripes?
Or white with black stripes?
And the zebra asked me,
Are you good with bad habits?
Or are you bad with good habits?"

~ Shel Silverstein

Reading guinea pigs know that some modern theories about zebra stripes involve thermodynamics! The dark stripes soak up more sunlight than the light ones, creating eddy currents of wind that swirls heat away. Other researchers have discovered that biting flies avoid striped patterns. It is thought that biting flies prefer hot temperatures, so they may be less likely to bite a cooler zebra. 🦓
