HUNGRY HUNGRY HIPPOS ... OR PECKISH PIGGIES? IT'S HIPPO DAY! SEE A RESEMBLANCE, PIGGIES?!

"Behold the hippopotamus!
We laugh at how he looks to us,
And yet in moments dank and grim,
I wonder how we look to him.
Peace, peace, thou hippopotamus!
We really look all right to us,
As you no doubt delight the eye
Of other hippopotami."

~The Hippopotamus, Ogden Nash (1902-1971)

Did you know that in 1996, there was a raging debate over whether or not the guinea pig belongs in the rodent category? After all, the guinea pig cousin, the rock hyrax is said to be related to the elephant! Evolutionary biologists still argue over classification of Caviomorpha (chinchilla rats, hutias, guinea pigs and the capybara, chinchillas and viscachas, tuco-tucos, agoutis, pacas, pacaranas, spiny rats, New World porcupines, coypu and octodonts) for their unique qualities. And although they may not be directly related to their wide mouthed mammalian water-loving hippo cousins, some skinny piggies certainly could fit right in as the tiniest of hippo lookalikes! #wheekwheekforhippos

Read about the hot rodent debate by clicking the picture below!
